Biography

Susan Michie [b. Edinburgh, Scotland 1946] is an artist working primarily in pencil, pen and ink. Her grandmother, Anne Redpath [1895-1965], was made the first female Academician at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1952 and her father was Dorset based artist Alastair Michie [1921-2008]. Both artists are known for their strong use of colour.

After working in the film industry for a number of years Susan decided to follow in the family tradition and enrolled at the Byam Shaw School of Art.

In 1998, after moving back to London from the country, she took a studio and began work on some drawings which were the basis of her current activity.

In 2001 she moved to Dorset where she worked on a collection of 42 drawings which were exhibited in 2008 with Bend In The River at X-Church, Gainsborough, Lincs. In 2010 she had a solo exhibition at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge University. In that same year she had another solo exhibition at BITR exhibiting To The Edge, a series of 14 panels.

Susan has also exhibited her work at the Atrium Gallery, Bournemouth University; Maltby Contemporary Art, Winchester; Art First, London; The Art Stable, Child Okeford, Dorset and the Hospital Club, London. Her work is held in several private collections.
